Not a bad outlook to wake up to each day. Taken from my balcony out at Docklands looking over Royal Victoria Dock to the Thames, O2 arena and Canary Wharf.

I was driving towards Glenorchy one very misty morning and came around the corner at Wilson’s Bay to be greeted by this captivating scene. This is as it was taken on the camera.

The McKenzie Country in South Canterbury is great for driving – here’s a typical scene, a long straight road with a canal on one side.

Driving along from Helensville I had to stop when I saw this scene – hundreds of purple toi toi with a dramatic black and stormy sky.

Legend has it that the great explorer Kupe arrived in New Zealand at the Hokianga Harbour. On his departure he placed two taniwha at the harbour’s entrance to protect those he left behind. A stunning part of New Zealand.

I took this about an hour after sunset, leaving the shutter open for 30″. Really like the misty effect and how different it is to the typical sandy beach shot of The Mount.

With the same black sand as Piha but more rugged and with less people, Karekare is another great spot only a short drive from Auckland’s CBD. I took these photos for the promotion of Tourism New Zealand’s garden at the 2006 Chelsea Flower Show in London.
